Two thousand and thirteen was a year of changes for me. I was travelling more than ever before; I had just signed a deal with a new company to expand my brand. One of my best friends was performing in Seychelles. Just one quick glance at some pictures of the inspiring shorelines of the world’s best aquatic playground and I was certain that I was going to be on the same flight as her!
What followed were some crazy days! We decided in a heartbeat that we wanted to dive in those topaz waters and so did some impromptu scuba diving training in Mumbai. That was probably the best thing we ever did! As we reached our destination our jaws dropped. I had never seen a more beautiful and serene place in my life! Every aspect of that place was just miraculous and we were beaming all through our stay there!
My first open water dive was something I will never ever forget. As I made my descent , I was pretty confident that my friend and my instructor were right behind me, only to realize when I reached the bottom that I was all on my own. I stood there for a few minutes, waving frantically to another group of divers hoping to join them, who for some strange reason refused , so I swam around for a while, taking it all in !
My fellow divers eventually joined me. But by then, I was busy exploring the underwater glories. What actually fascinated me the most was not the beautiful brightly coloured fish or sea life, but the way the water rushed around me swirling in different shapes and tones of blue. Those sights are embedded in my mind for all time. One of my first collections under my new brand name was the ‘underwater collection’ comprising of images of the waves and sea foam merging into each other in tones of blue and green. The pure fabrics I used were extremely soft and flowy for this collection. The underwater hues were essentially the inspiration for the kaleidoscope idea which was also incorporated in this collection. This collection was showcased in Singapore a couple of months later !
