HOW TO FEEL COOL THIS SUMMER

July 12, 2019

Published by SLAE. Magazine

Climate change has made summers getting excruciatingly hot all through the world; as global average temperatures have been increasing steadily in the last 150 years. As individuals is an initiative we can take to help our planet and ourselves during these summers and that is to start investing wisely. The key to summer clothing as I have always seen it is to always be wearing light, airy, durable and earth-friendly fabrics with breathable silhouettes to stay cool and happy during the sweltering heat!

I have listed down my top 3 summer friendly and breathable sustainable clothing brands, which can be purchased without burning a hole in your pocket!

Airon

AION

clothing line which supports zero waste and fabric management, which has been ignored by the fashion industry for years. They collect waste materials from various textile industries in Mumbai /India. The fate of that fabric would have otherwise been the incineration of dump yards which is an absolute waste of resources, labour and time. Apart from waste textile management, they consciously support and employ underprivileged women from slums around the city and teach them the basics of sewing and packaging! Aion’s collection is made solely of whites in GOTS certified cotton and linen. My pick from the lot is this pair of pleated pants, https://www.aionhomes.com/ priced at 31 euro and available worldwide!

KOTN

KOTN

KOTN – was born from a desire for good quality, simple essentials that didn’t cost a fortune they focus on one naturally remarkable fibre: authentic Egyptian cotton. I think everyone has heard about the luxury of Egyptian cotton so I dived deeper into this brand to see just how sustainable he or she really were.  Grown in only one place in the world — the Nile Delta — Egypt’s “white gold” is finer, softer, and more breathable than any other cotton. Unfortunately, since 2001, there has been a 95% decline in demand from big corporations that opted to go with cheaper options. As a result, millions of farmers, weavers, and craftspeople are struggling to make ends meet.

By working directly with cotton farming families in Egypt, Kotn wants to rebuild the industry from the inside. They make their own fabrics from raw cotton bought directly from farmers at guaranteed prices- like farm-to-table, but for your clothes. Their cotton is then sent to their cut-and-sew factory outside Alexandria. The responsibly run operation employs locals, securing their craft and their livelihood. By scrapping the middleman the wages are fair trade prices for their labor and for us as well! My pick in the Baby doll dress in white for 25 euro and available on https://kotn.com/

Memi collective

MEMI COLLECTIVE

MODEL: WIDE LEG IN BLACK

They are into slow fashion clothes that don’t go out of style and are not mass produced.

Designs that are simple and classic and look put together whether you’re at home, the park with your kids or eating out.Clothing for living. Have fun, move and then throw it in the washer and not worry about it. They want our clothes to have a conscience. MeMi used fabrics like bamboo and cotton and I have personally felt the t-shirts and they feel like heaven. Honestly, it was a struggle for me to change into my pajamas as these t-shirts are just so comfortable. Available worldwide, my pick would be the sleeveless romper in green available for 23 Euro  at   https://www.memicollective.com/collections/sale-1
